TNA D5 Stance on Systemic Racism

Posted almost 4 years ago

The Texas Nurses Association District 5 unequivocally denounces systemic racism and oppression, and the violent acts that took the lives of many Americans. We support our Black nurses as well as Black clients/patients/students and their families. We stand with these individuals to help their communities, protect their families, and fight for their children’s opportunities.

The Texas Nurses Association, District 5, stand with our distressed members and support them in advocating for change.  We support the Texas Board of Nursing’s standards of Nursing Practice, specifically Rule 217.11 (1) (L), to provide without discrimination, nursing services regardless of age, disability, economic status, gender, national origin, race, religion, health problems, or the sexual orientation of the client served. We support the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses and we echo the president of the ANA who stated,

“At this critical time in our nation, nurses have a responsibility to use our voices to call for change. To remain silent is to be complicit. I call on you to educate yourself

and then use your trusted voice and influence to educate others…”
