Program Highlight: Celebrating Black History Month with Distinguished Professional Nurses

Join us for an enlightening panel discussion as we honor Black History Month by amplifying the voices and experiences of distinguished Black American nurses. Our esteemed panelists, Caryll Campbell MSN, MPH, RN, CEN, NPD-BC; Toni Swinton DNP, RNC, NPD-BC, FAWHONN; and Angela P. Wright PhD, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, will share their life stories and career journeys, offering valuable insights into their remarkable achievements and the challenges they've overcome in the nursing profession.

This event promises to be an inspiring and empowering opportunity to learn from the experiences of these exceptional individuals and celebrate the contributions of Black nurses to healthcare and society. Don't miss out on this enlightening discussion!

Caryll Campbell
Caryll Campbell MSN, MPH, RN, CEN, NPD-BC

Director of Orientation & Education at CommUnityCare

Caryll Campbell is the Director of Orientation & Education at CommUnityCare. She is originally from Trinidad& Tobago but grew up in Takoma Park, Maryland. Caryll has her bachelor's in health administration from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, her BSN from Johns Hopkins University and a dual master's degree in Nursing and Public Health from Johns Hopkins. Caryll has worked clinically in critical care, inpatient infectious disease and emergency nursing. She has worked in leadership and education for over 10 years. She resides in Round Rock, Texas with her family.

Toni Swinton
Toni Swinton DNP, RNC, NPD-BC, FAWHONN

Division Vice President Clinical Education Central West Texas Division of
HCA Healthcare.

Toni Swinton serves as the Vice President for Clinical Education supporting the Central West Texas Division of HCA Healthcare. Prior to this role, over her twenty-seven year career, Dr. Swinton’s clinical experience ranged from a bedside clinician in high-risk obstetrics to perinatal perioperative nurse and perinatal clinical educator. Dr. Swinton’s current responsibilities enables the integration of her passions for clinical competency, professional development, patient safety, and evidence-based practice in an effort to enhance or design education initiatives across a variety of healthcare organizations. Beyond the work in her day to day clinical education leadership role, she also appreciates the opportunity to influence the profession of nursing through volunteer work in national professional nursing organizations that include core membership in the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses’ Finance Committee and as secretary-treasurer on the board of directors of the National Certification Corporation, as well as the Board of Directors Chair for CAPITAL Idea here in Central Texas. Dr. Swinton holds teaching Nursing Certificate from the University of Texas at Austin; Bachelor of Science, Nursing from New York University; Master of Science and Doctor of Nursing Practice, Clinical Nurse Specialist – Women’s Health from University of South Alabama. She also holds multiple certifications including Inpatient Obstetrics, Electronic Fetal Monitoring, Obstetric Neonatal Quality and Safety, and Nursing Professional Development. Originally from Georgetown, Guyana “by way of” New York City; Dr. Swinton, her daughter Jazmin and her husband Tyron, now consider Austin home.

Angela P. Wright
Angela P. Wright PhD, MBA, RN, NEA-BC

Chief Nursing Officer | Vice President Nursing
Ascension Seton Williamson

Dr. Angela Wright is the Chief Nursing Officer of Ascension Seton Williamson Medical Center, which is a Blue Ribbon Bariatric Center of Excellence, Trauma Level II and Primary Stroke Center. In this role, Dr. Wright is responsible for implementing nursing's philosophy, vision and strategic direction within the facility. Dr. Wright also serves as the Ascension Texas Chief Nursing Officer Chair. She received her PhD in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in 2014, MBA from Our Lady of the Lake University in 2001, BSN from The University of Texas- Houston Health Science Center in and her ADN from Houston Community College. She is board certified as a Nurse Executive Advanced (NEA-BC) and received an AONL Certificate in Executive Leadership. Dr. Wright is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, American Nurses Association, Texas Nurses Association, American College of Healthcare Executives and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She and her husband, Ray are the proud parents of four children and two fur babies.
